You’ve heard about White Noise, but what is it and how can it benefit you?

Each of these powerful noise signals translates into a different colour. In other words, if blue noise’s sound wave pattern got translated into light waves, those light waves would be blue. There’s grey, pink, purple, red, and many more including white noise. And each colour can assist with certain health issues like insomnia or anxiety.

Here are some benefits of a few of the main noises as well as a video example of each:

White Noise

For many people, the main contributor to insomnia is anxious thoughts swirling around keeping them up at night. White noise is a great way to implement a bedtime routine, thus training your brain to relax when it’s time for bed. Sleep is important to our brains as it flushed out harmful toxins that are likely the cause of Alzheimer’s Disease.

White noise is also perfect for people who struggle to fall asleep if it’s quiet…too quiet. It neutralises the sound consistency, thus resulting in better sleep.

It can help babies and kids fall asleep quicker too. And if kids are struggling with concentration issues, white noise has been proven to be a great help.

Pink Noise

When it comes to sleep, white and pink noise are the two most important. And pink might even be more beneficial than white noise. Pink noise lowers high-frequency tones, whereas white noise keeps the same level across all frequencies. In other words, in pink noise, lower pitches are louder than higher pitches.

Some studies suggest pink noise can actually reduce brain activity by calming brain waves. Thus, it can decrease sleep onset, extend sleep duration, and improve overall sleep quality.

Red Noise

Also known as Brown or Brownian noise, decreases in intensity as it increases in frequency. Thus, it produces a low rumbling sound like thunder, low roaring or strong waterfalls.

Red noise, like the others, is very beneficial when it comes to sleep improvement. However, even if you are struggling to relax or feeling anxious, red noise is a great tool to use. It can also improve focus whilst working or studying.

With all that being said, if you are looking for a colour to specifically help you with sleeping issues, it comes down to personal preference. I would suggest trying them all and sticking to what your body responds positively to.
