3 Coats you need in your winter capsule wardrobe

Now that we are in the final weeks of autumn, and winter is approaching fast – it’s the perfect time to do a winter wardrobe edit and take a look at the 3 must have winter coats (if you have not done one already!).

My wardrobe tip here is to actually physically pack away the clothes you know won’t be wearing for the next few months. This frees up space in your wardrobe, and allows you to organise your winter pieces in a more orderly and neat fashion. When you can see all your items neatly organized in your wardrobe, it makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier, takes less time and far less stressful! If you don’t have the luxury of a spare wardrobe somewhere in the house – use large containers to store your summer/ spring clothes away safely. Once you have done this, you will have a better idea of which pieces you are missing in your wardrobe for winter, or which pieces need to be updated.

As a coat is a larger investment financially, I thought I would start my winter fashion tips by sharing which 4 coats you need in your capsule winter wardrobe:

  1. Trench

You would have been wearing your trench for the past couple of months of autumn, and this is why I always advise ladies to buy a trench coat a size up with a bit more room – as now is the time you can start to wear chunkier/ warmer jumpers and knits underneath. The trench is an absolute workhorse and versatile investment piece  in your capsule wardrobe, by being able to change what you wear underneath. If you have purchased your trench slightly more fitted with less room, look at investing in some merino wool long sleeve t-shirts to provide you with the warmth going into winter.

  1. Wool Coat

Invest in a good quality wool coat! My tip here is to always  check the label inside to see the composition of the wool / wool blend. Another super versatile investment piece, if you start by purchasing a winter coat in a neutral colour and a relaxed fit  – the ways to wear it are endless! Pair it casually with jeans and a hoodie, sports luxe over your activewear or dress it up for the office or elevate for date night!

  1. Puffer

When I first moved to Goulburn, 9 years ago – the first investment winter coat I purchased was a puffer jacket. It was a more expensive purchase as I opted for something with 100% real down, but I can honestly say it’s the best money I have spent for winter and it’s an item I wear every single day! There are different options, you could go a  sleeveless vest, the regular jacket length or my personal favourite –  the slightly longer coat that finishes just above the knee. If you buy something with real down feather, you only really need to wear something thin underneath.

Now as always, bear in mind these are pieces that work for me, my personal style and my lifestyle. We are all unique and have different careers, demands and lifestyles. Why do I believe in a capsule wardrobe and seasonal wardrobe edit? You save time, money & eliminate stress! If you would like help with your winter wardrobe, get in touch! Always have fun with fashion and stay fabulous you!
